LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

The season of Advent is upon us. It is so exciting to share this special time with our families. With the hustle and bustle of holiday parties, shopping, decorating and entertaining it is easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas. I encourage all of you to save time to spend with your children talking about Jesus. Whatever your traditions are enjoy each moment and sit back and relax! You all deserve it!

May you have a very Merry Christmas and blessed 2010!

God Bless,

Megan Thornton

Night Before Christmas For Moms

Twas the night before Christmas, when all thru the abode
only one creature was stirring, and she was cleaning the commode.
The children were finally sleeping, all snug in their beds,
while visions of Nintendo 64 and Barbie, flipped through their heads.
The dad was snoring in front of the TV,
with a half-constructed bicycle on his knee.
So only the mom heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
which made her sigh, "Now what's the matter?"
With toilet bowl brush still clutched in her hand,
she descended the stairs, and saw the old man.
He was covered with ashes and soot, which fell with a shrug.
"Oh great," muttered the mom, "Now I have to clean the rug."
"Ho-ho-ho!" cried Santa, "I'm glad you're awake."
"Your gift was especially difficult to make."
"Thanks, Santa, but all I want is some time alone."
"Exactly!" he chuckled, "I've made you a clone."
"A clone?" she asked, "What good is that?
Run along, Santa, I've no time for chit-chat."
The mother's twin. Same hair, same eyes,
same double chin. "She'll cook, she'll dust,"
she'll mop every mess. You'll relax, take it easy,
watch The Young & the Restless." "Fantastic!" the mom cheered.
"My dream come true! "I'll shop. I'll read.,
I'll sleep a whole night through!"
From the room above, the youngest began to fret.
"Mommy?! I scared... and I 'm wet."
The clone replied, "I'm coming, sweetheart."
"Hey," the mom smiled, "She knows her part."
The clone changed the small one, and hummed a tune,
as she bundled the child, in a blanket cocoon.
"You the best mommy ever. " I really love you."
The clone smiled and sighed, "I love you, too."
The mom frowned and said, "Sorry, Santa, no deal."
That's my child's love, she's trying to steal."
Smiling wisely Santa said, "To me it is clear,"
Only one loving mother, is needed here."
The mom kissed her child, and tucked her into bed.
"Thank you, Santa, " for clearing my head.
I sometimes forget, it won't be very long,
when they'll be too old, for my cradle-song."
The clock on the mantle began to chime.
Santa whispered to the clone, "It works every time."
With the clone by his side Santa said, "Goodnight.
Merry Christmas, Mom, You'll be all right."

November 2009

Letter from President

November brings us the season of Thanksgiving and a chance to reflect on what many blessings we have in our lives. Having time off to spend celebrating the feast of Thanksgiving with our families is so important in shaping our children's future. Whether you instill your childhood traditions or have created new ones it is so very important to share our blessings with the ones we love!

We are all blessed with the gift of motherhood and are very thankful! This month our guest speaker, Lisa Clark, will be giving us parenting tips on "raising sinners". This topic will be wonderful for all.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last month with Discipleship Weekend and the POP Picnic. Your service to our community is invaluable! A few more MOMS are needed to help out with our Thanksgiving Food Drive on November 19th, 9:30-11:00 a.m. Let me know if you can join us! (thorntontwins@me.com)

Take some quiet time to thank God for your many blessings!

Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. -Psalms 105:1

Peace,

Megan Thornton

MOMS President 2009-2010

November's Speaker Information

In November Lisa Clark from Sky Ranch will be joining us to discuss "Raising Little Sinners - Modeling Christ, Discipline and Maintaining the Peace!" http://www.skyranch.org/LisaClark

Lisa Clark has been teaching women’s bible studies for the past 6 years at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. Prior to that, she taught new believing families for 15 years on basic Christian principles and growth. She has been teaching moms and dads throughout the D/FW area and at Prestonwood Christian Academy through Kingdom Parent Institute. Lisa has a unique teaching style that couples humor with Biblical insights and personal stories of raising her own two daughters. Grounded in God’s Word, Lisa has a passion for encouraging moms in the day to day struggles of parenting preteens and teens.

“I am not a perfect parent and realize that as long as I am covered in flesh, I will fall short on a daily basis. But I also realize that God has given me what I need to parent confidently. Confident parenting is the key. I am the parent and God has commissioned me to be the parent. I have a responsibility to Him, my husband and my children to give my very best.”

Lisa travels throughout Texas and Oklahoma teaching and encouraging moms through this new, innovative ministry. She writes parenting articles and serves as director of the ministry.

Lisa is married to Brad, her husband of 22 years. They have two daughters, Caroline (19) and Camryn (14). They currently reside in Plano, Texas

Don't forget to bring your $7.00 for the December Brunch. Make Checks payable to Michele Nelson.

October 2009

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Happy FALL Y'ALL!

I have such fond childhood memories during this time of year... picking out pumpkins, Halloween costumes and watching football. I'm so thankful that the weather is changing and outside play time is pleasant! Now that everyone's schedules are in full swing hopefully everyone can take some time out and enjoy some time with friends and fellow moms at our October Meeting. We have a great speaker lined up, Jane Jarrell, who will present, "3 For All". Can't wait to find out how to make yummy delicious meals with 3 ingredients! We also have a fun outing to Owens farm in Richardson for our children. I am looking forward to some great photo opportunities with all the kids in the pumpkin patch. And of course our Annual "Trunk or Treat" is scheduled for October 23rd at 6pm. My kids are already excited about this fun event! It is open to our entire parish so come prepared with many treats!

I still need volunteers during the POP Discipleship Drive with representing the M.O.M.S. group at all masses Oct. 17-18 This is our time to recruit and show off our important ministry. I need 2 people per mass to carry our banner and man the information table. Thank you to Elizabeth Reynolds, Rita Cunningham and Maureen Redman who have already volunteered. Contact
megan.thornton@verizon.net with questions.

The same weekend is our parish picnic. The M.O.M.S. group is responsible for running the games for our children. This is a fun opportunity for everyone. I need more people to sign up for 1 hour shifts between 12-3. We will have teens helping at each game so all you have to do is pass out prizes and smile! Thank you to Christine Giannini, Nori Runge, Melissa Rey and Cindy Bouchard who have already volunteered.

I am so thankful for this ministry and the friends I have gained in the last 3 years. I am blessed to serve as your President. Thanks to everyone for making this a wonderful support group!

1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up."

Many Blessings,

CALLING ALL MOMS AND THEIR CHILDREN!!

LIVING ROSARY at Prince of Peace Church, October 27th, Tueday at 3:45 pm.

We need at least 68 "beads" or volunteers (moms and/or children) to make this rosary a success. I hope to get all the volunteers for this first rosary from the MOMS group. Moms, we will let you decide if your child is age appropriate for this. Some 3 year olds would LOVE to say their Hail Mary on the microphone for all to hear. Please don't worry if your child gets "shy" once it is their turn - you can always step in a say their prayer for them. The format will be that each "bead" say the beginning of the prayer and the audience will respond. Cindy will distribute prayer cards so everyone can just read their card.

There will have the sign-up sheet at the next meeting but feel free to email Cindy Kayanan (ckayanan@aol.com) if you and your child are interested in volunteering. Also, she is all for positive peer pressure so if your child wants to sit next to their friend, let her know that too and we will make sure they are in the same "decade".

Precious Toddler Bed for Sale:
We purchased this toddler bed in June of this year and only used it about a month before we decided to transition our nearly 3 year old into a full size bed. She's very tall and we went ahead & made the switch sooner than we thought we would. It's in perfect condition, obviously since it's only been used just under a month! We paid $193 for it, but will take $125. If you need the crib mattress also, it will be $140. It's KidKraft brand & great quality. We purchased it at Lone Star Baby in Frisco. If you would like to come by & look at it in person, please contact Tara at taraewalsh@yahoo.com. Please feel free to pass along to anyone interested!
