Sibling Rivalry

Have your kids been squabbling more than usual over the Christmas break?

Well, we're kicking off the new year with a speaker that can help tackle a problem common to may families...SIBLING RIVALRY! Dr. Nell Bush, a Child Development Specialist, will be speaking on how parents can minimize sibling rivalry and resentment. She will address the importance of understanding and addressing the different temperaments of children and offering tips to show equal attention and favor toward all of your children, avoiding favoritism at all costs!

So, come join us at our next meeting on January 6, 2012 at 9:30 am in the church atrium. As usual, there will be brunch items provided by our members and there is a nursery available for children ($10 per child).

If you haven't received the Evite or are a new or potential member, please email us at popmoms11_12@hotmail.com and we'll send you the information.

Happy New Year!

Together: Creating Family Traditions

You are cordially invited to the November MOMS meeting on November 11th at 9:30am in the curch atrium! This month we welcome author Rondi Hillstrom Davis. Her book, Together: Creating Family Traditions is a beautifully photographed journal of family traditions, seasonal projects and recipes. It has won numerous awards and is recommended by PBSkids.org. This book hopes to inspire us to turn our attention away from the commercial aspects of the holidays, to a more personal expression of the seasons.

Rondi will be demonstrating some of the ideas presented in the book as well as discussing her "Family Style" philosophy. Rondi encourages parents today to consider shifting the focus of the time they spend with their children. Rather than lavish our children with material goods and an overabundance of scheduled activities, find ways to interact with our children and enrich the time we spend with them. Remember that simple things can bring us joy and every day is a great day to create lasting traditions with our families!

Check out the website: www.togetherparenting.com for more information, as well as a preview of the book. Rondi will have copies of her book available for purchase ($20) and will happily sign them if you wish.

Member Stefanie Lee will also be displaying merchandise from Thirty-One Gifts if anyone is ready to get a jump start on their Christmas shopping! Check out the website: www.mythirtyone.com/78327 to learn more about the company and view the fall catalog.

Reminder: Please submit $10 to our treasurer Melissa Reny if you plan to attend the December 9th brunch & gift exchange. Deadline to receive payment is December 5th.
Hope to see you at the meeting!

If you did not receive the evite to this month's meeting, please email popmoms11_12@hotmail.com

A Big Thank You!

THANK YOU to all of you that helped make Trunk or Treat a success!

We had a great turnout and the kids had a blast getting their treats! There were some wonderfully creative trunks and awesome costumes that won prizes. I think everyone had a great time!

A very special thank you goes to Art, Gerry, and the Knights of Columbus who helped us with parking and keeping the children safe. The Knights had many events to cover this weekend and it was so kind of them to help us, too. THANK YOU, KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS!

We collected over 200 cans of food and $150 to be donated to Minnie's Food Pantry. Check out the photo below! Our kids had fun and Minnie's Food Pantry got some support!

Thanks again!

A letter from our president

Dear Friend,

You are invited to join the 2011-2012 Prince of Peace MOMS Group. We are a social organization of mothers with a philanthropic attitude. The mission of Mothers Offering Mothers Support (MOMS) is to provide an opportunity for Christian support and friendship in an accepting and fun environment. In addition to the monthly meetings and speakers, our group has monthly social activities for moms, family, and children, as well as outreach and volunteer opportunities.

Our meetings are held once a month, on the first or second Friday of the month, in the Atrium of the church, from 9:30-11:30. We enjoy a hearty brunch from 9:30-9:55, which is our “social time”. The meeting is called to order at 10:00am with a prayer, Board announcements about upcoming events, and our featured guest speaker. Our speakers will enlighten, educate, inform, and entertain us for about an hour. Our meeting schedule for this year is outstanding and our scheduled speakers are phenomenal.

Childcare is available for your little ones (ages 9 months & older) in the Church Nursery ($10 per child/per meeting or a discounted annual prepayment of $50 per child).

Our first meeting is scheduled for Friday,September 16th. We hope to see you there and at all of our fun, family-oriented events. Membership ($35) provides for a multitude of spiritual, motivational, and joyful opportunities to grow as mothers, faith-filled women, and friends.

Much love and blessings,

Michele Nelson
